Beyond the City of San Antonio
Renting a dumpster in the suburbs around San Antonio
A San Antonio mailing address does not always mean City of San Antonio rules. Many Bexar County neighborhoods sit inside separate cities, and some sit in no city at all.
Whose rules apply
The Lane/Sidewalk Closure Permit and the RoWM registration behind it cover City of San Antonio streets. The free bulky centers and curbside brush and bulky pickup belong to the city's Solid Waste Management Department, and the drop-off centers ask for a CPS Energy bill and proof you pay the city's environmental fee. Living in Schertz, Converse, Live Oak, Universal City, Helotes or Leon Valley puts you under that town's own code and trash contract instead.
We have not yet checked each town's street rules against two sources, so we do not summarize them here. Before a container goes on a suburban street, call that city hall and ask whether a permit is needed.
New Braunfels
New Braunfels used to rent dumpsters to residents itself. Its Dumpster Rental page now says the city program "is currently suspended" and that rentals are "handled exclusively by private haulers" for the time being. The same page lists 14 private haulers with permits to operate inside city limits. The city's commercial garbage page also says several private haulers are permitted there.
The closest landfill for many New Braunfels jobs is WM's Mesquite Creek Landfill at 1700 Kohlenberg Lane, which accepts household waste, construction debris and yard waste.
Schertz, Converse, Universal City and Live Oak
This part of the metro has two landfills close by. Beck Landfill sits at 550 FM 78 in Schertz and is limited to construction and demolition debris, land clearing, trees and brush. Republic's Tessman Road Landfill is at 7000 IH 10 East on the east side and takes both household and construction waste. A remodel load from the northeast side often has a short haul, which can show up in the price.
Universal City's own reference list names both of these sites, plus Covel Gardens on the southwest side.
Helotes, Leon Valley and the west side
West and northwest suburbs are closer to Covel Gardens at 8611 Covel Road than to the east side landfills. For street placement and HOA questions, the town and the neighborhood association are the ones to ask.
Wherever you are, the form works the same way. Enter the ZIP where the box goes and the request is matched to haulers who serve it. Start a request.
